I’m a freelance journalist and copywriter based in New York City. You can regularly find my words in MSNBC, where I’m an op-ed columnist.

Intro

Hi! My name is Noor (he/him). I’m a writer and editor. I love words and I love people, which is how I ended up in journalism. I am a semi-generalist with a focus on the intersection of culture and politics, particularly LGBTQ issues, feminism, and race. Much of my coverage over the years has focused on South Asia, too, which led me to pursue an M.Phil. in South Asian Studies at the University of Oxford, where I studied queer identity formation in Pakistan. I’ve also worked in PR and communications.

I am proudly trans and a proud dog dad to Nala. And I’m the frontman of a band called — you guessed it — The Nalas.

Work

I’ve held a variety of professional writing and editing positions in advertising, marketing, journalism, and the entertainment industry, where I’ve been responsible for delivering everything from social copy to 5,000-word features.

I’m based in NYC, but available to travel for longer consulting engagements.

My CV

In my capacity as a journalist, I’ve done some combination of writing, editing, producing, and presenting, working at outlets such as Mic and Bloomberg. At Mic, my on-camera work included foreign coverage, reporting from Paris immediately after the coordinated attacks in November 2015. I was a host for the outlet's daily video show, Mic Check. Other on-camera work included video op-eds and punditry for Mic's joint series with Spotify, which was nominated for an Emmy, on issues in the 2016 American elections.

I also worked in PR and communications at Edelman, where I was a VP-level Senior Editor. There, I was a producer, copywriter, and ghostwriter, with clients ranging from iShares to Volkswagen.

Additionally, I wrote and performed an acclaimed one-person show, which got accepted into the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and was optioned by a major production company for TV development.

Ultimately, I am passionate about storytelling and crafting narratives. And it’s felt like a privilege whenever I’ve had the opportunity to help other people tell their stories.
